A pagan King who later converted to Christianity, King Edwin was a great friend and supporter of Saint Paulinus of York in his mission to the North of England and was reportadly the father (or uncle) of Saint Edwen (6th November), the virgin of Wales.

Saint Edwin was killed in battle by the theomachistic king Penda of Mercia in 633.
